KINKY BOOTS will have a limited repeat run from March 2 to 18 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City.

After its SOLD OUT run last year, Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group will bring back Nyoy Volante as Lola in the Philippine production of the Tony and Grammy Award-Winning musical KINKY BOOTS.

In an interview held at Stockwell Cafe and Lounge last week, Nyoy revealed that he was deeply terrified of portraying the role of Lola, who is a drag queen. He explained that more than just playing the role, being Lola in Kinky Boots also meant representing one of the most under-represented group in society and that he didn’t want to do it wrong.

WATCH THE INTERVIEW HERE:

I have seen the first run and Nyoy’s portrayal of Lola was comical and yet dignified.

Critics also made it clear that Nyoy did a good job during the first run asserting the fact that he’s doing it right the last time, however the fear is still present, and will always be there, the actor said. The actor-singer also promises to bring in all the little learnings that he got from the first run to the stage on March.

Yanah Laurel won’t be able to join the repeat run because she will be appearing in the re-staging of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”

Replacing Yanah for the role of Lauren is Nyoy’s better half Mikkie Bradshaw who is very excited to perform her big solo “The History of Wrong Guys” and just hang-out backstage with “Lola’s Angels.” Mikkie told us that Yanah and her have very different acting styles so there’s definitely going to be some noticeable differences.

During the interview, Mikkie and Nyoy shared the best and worst part of working together in a stage production.

Reprising his role as Charlie is Laurence Mossman who expressed his excitement in doing the role all over again. It’s a very challenging role actually, both Lola and Charlie shares the same amount of stage time and song numbers. The only difference is that Lola gets to wear something extra.

LAURENCE MOSSMAN ON KINKY BOOTS REPEAT:

For those who haven’t seen it yet, Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie, the son of a shoemaker who reluctantly takes up his father’s factory after his death, and Lola, a drag queen who’s fueled by her passion for shoes. The duo tries to save the factory from bankruptcy, and they eventually find themselves part of an uncanny bond that forms between their two very different worlds. Together they learn what it means to be each other’s friend despite their differences.

Written by Harvey Fierstein with the music and lyrics of 80’s pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots is sure to sweep your hearts away for a second time.
