Aside from having a venue to put in all my thoughts about “everything under the sun”, the other thing that I wanted to do with this blog when I created it was to chronicle my experiences about the places that I’ve been to – not necessarily my travels (because I don’t travel a lot) but rather all the small spaces, places and corners here and there.

Prior to converting my free WordPress site to a dot com in the last quarter of 2012, I was already blogging about resorts and restaurants that I’ve set my foot into. Sadly, the migration process have caused all my photos from posts published before October 2012 to disappear permanently in the cloud.

Also at that time, I was already blogging more about personalities, events, brands and entertainment. And while I have been to a lot of places in and out of Metro Manila to attend events, there were only a few instances that I was able to write my experience about physical venues thoroughly on the blog.

And as a renewed commitment to this long set-aside goal, I have decided to put an extra effort next year (in a couple of days from now) to feature more of the places I’ve been to – hotels, resorts, restaurants, churches and other places of interest.

For the hotels and resorts, I have featured most recently Microtel Inn MOA, Club Balai Isabel, Island Cove, Vista Real Tagaytay, Le Charme Suites Subic,¬†Azalea Residences Baguio and Azalea Boracay. I am also targeting to feature some of the lesser known hotels and bed & breakfast in Mega Manila such as Nichols Airport Hotel and the one I’m featuring in this post right now – ICON HOTEL TIMOG.

This hotel is conveniently located at corner of Tomas Morato-Timog Rotonda in Diliman Quezon City – the one with the scouts monument.

Now if you’re familiar with the place, you’ll know that these area is loaded with just about all kinds of restaurants, events place and hangouts that you can imagine. It’s also near the offices of network giants ABS CBN and GMA. Accessible via major thoroughfares EDSA, Quezon Avenue, Kamuning and E. Rodriguez Sr.

What makes this hotel a stand out from the other hotels is its funky and pop-styled rooms adorned with images of iconic Hollywood celebrities (just like what the name implies). For example, the room that I got during my stay there was the one styled with the King of Pop himself – Michael Jackson.

Aside from the stylized rooms, ICON HOTEL is also the most affordable hotel in the area that has an indoor pool and offers a buffet breakfast. They also have an in-suite spa service, but I didn’t try that.

ICON Hotel Published Rates:

  • Premium – 3,450.00 Pesos
  • Deluxe – 3,700.00 Pesos
  • Icon Suite 1 – 4,100.00 Pesos
  • Icon Suite 2 – 4,350.00 Pesos

All rates includes a complimentary breakfast for two (2) persons plus access to all its hotel facilities. But hold your horses, ’cause you can also get these rooms at up to 40% cheaper on booking sites through their regular promos and exclusive deals. I was able to get my Premium Room for only 1,849.00 Pesos on a Flash Sale via Travelbook.

Now speaking of amenities, the rooms are all equipped with free Wifi, LED TV, phone, safety deposit box and complimentary bottled water. The downside is that if you’re looking for a view outside, you wont get it from this hotel. Well there’s not much to look at outside anyway, but I do like rooms with big windows and a view even if it’s just the street below and the other buildings that surrounds it.

ICON HOTEL also has an indoor pool available for their guests. The pool area also has a TV, jacuzzi, sauna and steam bath. The only problem I have with the pool area is that it’s too dark and dull.

And like I said with the room, it could use a little view from the outside – a couple of lightly tainted glass windows could do the job – and then replace the tiles on the wall so it could look more like a resort-hotel indoor pool than just an enormous bath house. Didn’t stay there long, it’s a decent indoor pool but it’s just not enticing enough.

The lobby, security, cleanliness and service, they’re all awesome!¬†Buffet breakfast is okay and definitely better than the Kuya J serviced resto in Azalea Boracay.

Over-all, I give Icon Hotel a thumbs up for location and value for money! I could stay here again.
