Having lived for long periods of time in different cities in both the Philippines and the US has made it somewhat challenging for Gerald Anderson to find love, but then again, nothing is impossible.

“It’s true,” says Gerald laughing. “My new love hails from Cebu, is very generous and family-oriented, and loves to cook all my favorite food.”

His new love is none other than Hukad, the franchise brand of the legendary foodie destination The Golden Cowrie restaurant of Cebu; which recently opened several branches in and near Metro Manila with Gerald Anderson as brand ambassador.  Gerald’s new love springs from his “old” and enduring love for two things:  Family and food.

Growing up the son of an American instructor at Subic Bay, and a Filipina business woman from General Santos City, Gerald hasn’t really had the chance to “plant roots”.  As a child, Gerald lived in General Santos, then San Antonio, Texas, then Springfield, Missouri where he finished his elementary education.

As it is with so many children of parents of different nationalities, for Gerald home was not defined by geography, but by family, and in a very real way by food.  Since mom did the cooking, food was a mix of comfort food, mostly Filipino with a Bisaya twist, and a smattering of American dishes and influences.  That is what makes him the perfect ambassador, to the proudly Filipino restaurant with Bisaya character, Hukad.

“When I eat Hukad dishes, I always remember how mom took care of me when I was young.  So it’s always nakakabusog ng tiyan and ng puso when it’s my turn to treat my mom at Hukad, because it brings us closer as a family.”  Intimates Gerald Anderson.

Like Gerald Anderson, Filipino cuisine is very much a “Tisoy”, it is a fusion of both Eastern and Western influences that are a result of our unique geography and history.  An ideal place to celebrate special occasions with family, Hukad offers a wide and ever expanding menu, loaded with Filipino comfort food, and some distinctly Cebuano-Bisaya dishes that are among the “must tries” for any first time Cebu visitors.  Hukad’s signature Lechon Belly de Cebu, and amazing Bantayan Baked Scallops in particular are almost legendary in Cebu.

“We’re very pleased to have Gerald Anderson as our endorser for Hukad and Golden Cowrie,” says Kenneth C. Kokseng, General Manager of Hukad and Golden Cowrie. “His passion for life and for his craft reflect our passion for our food and our service.  What’s more, Gerald is part Bisaya, so he really is authentic, he truly knows and appreciates our culture, tastes, and flavors.”

When it comes to romance, only time will tell though if he will ever find “The One”.  When it comes to food though, with Hukad and Golden Cowrie, Gerald is well and truly home.

Hukad now has branches in SM Mall of Asia, SM Southmall, SM Sucat, SM BF Paranaque, SM Bicutan, SM San Lazaro, SM Bacoor, SM Dasmarinas, Trinoma, S Maison, and Ayala Malls Cloverleaf.  In VisMin, you can visit Hukad in Cebu, Dumaguete, Tacloban, Bacolod, Ilo-Ilo, Boracay, Davao, Butuan, Tagum, Ozamiz, Pagadian, Gensan, Zamboanga, Cotabato, Digos, Tagum, CDO and Iligan.
