SWIPE – SCAN – PAY – REPEAT! Say hello to the future of cashless purchasing via the all new GCash App and its new Scan-To-Pay feature.
A real game changer!
“Imagine a day when you can shop and buy cinema tickets, bus and train tickets with a simple scan of your personal GCash QR code in your smart phone. The convenient daily life 520 million Alipay users are enjoying will soon be realized in the Philippines,” said Eric Jing, CEO of Ant Financial.
October 25, 2017 is going to be known as the date when the Philippine retail industry finally opens up to full electronic payments via the GCash App.
Joining Eric Jing of Ant Financial Services Group in this momentous event were Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu, Ayala Corporation President and CEO Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Ayala Land President and CEO Bobby Dy, Mynt President and CEO Anthony Thomas and Alibaba Group Founder and Chairman Jack Ma.
The new payment option is a game changer for both consumers and merchants. It allows customers to pay for goods and services by simply using their smartphones to scan QR codes displayed by merchants and establishments. On the other hand, business owners also benefit from not having to install expensive machines as they are provided with a QR code sticker which buyers can scan to pay. Customers pay the exact amount, removing the need for coins or change. GCash sees this solution working not just for organized trade but even for the ambulant vendors.
We have experienced this first-hand as GCash set-up the new payment system in select stores inside Glorietta Mall in Makati for a full day to showcase how easy it is to use the GCash App and its new Scan-To-Pay feature. We’ve tried it in stores like Marks & Spencers, Bench, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, Max’s Restaurant, Timezone, Glorietta Cinemas, The Movie Snackbar and even with the Puto Bumbong, Bibingka, Taho and Sorbetes vendors found at the event area.
All you need to look for are the QR Code stickers in the stores, swipe on the app, scan the code, enter the exact amount to pay and you’re done! But make sure that you have ample amount on your GCash wallet before you do that. If not, then you’ll need to Cash-In first and there are also a lot of convenient way to that as well.
In Glorietta, they have this “Touch Pay” automated machines installed near the Food Court area where you can Cash-In or do most of the transactions with your GCash Wallet like pay bills and stuff. You can also Cash-In at any GCash Kiosks, Globe Stores, over 13,000 other partner outlets nationwide and all 7Eleven branches – you’ll find one in every corner of Metro Manila. 🙂 It’s that convenient.
“In this country, only 5% of the population have credit cards, leaving almost everybody to carry cash all the time to pay for something. Today, we are introducing the 3rd method of payment – GCash. We found the right partner and the right time to really scale up the business and change the way we use financial services,” said Cu, Globe President and CEO.
Aside from Glorietta, expect the new GCash payment system to roll out in other Ayala Malls such as Greenbelt, TriNoma, Alabang Town Center, Market! Market!, UP Town Center, Ayala Malls The 30th , Ayala Malls Vertis North, Ayala Malls South Park, and Ayala Center Cebu in the coming weeks.
And if that’s not enough to get you excited, GCash will also launch #GDay in Glorietta on November 11 so that more people will be able to experience cashless shopping with the biggest promos and rebates from GCash in participating stores.
If you want to get your own GCash scan to pay experience just download the app on Google Playstore or the App Store.
