The Idea First Company’s Direk Prime Cruz makes a transition from indie to maindie to mainstream in Regal Film’s pre-halloween movie treat THE DEBUTANTES.
Prime is know for the 2016 short “Kung Ang Ulan ay Gawa sa Tsokolate” and the equally successful full length features “Sleepless” and “Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23 B”. The young director differentiated THE DEBUTANTES from his last horror flick (Ang Manananggal..) as more millennial in both effects, theme and aesthetics. Bright scenes as opposed to the usual dark mood of popular horror movies.
The story of THE DEBUTANTES will tackle the over-all theme of “bullying” set on a background of a blissful 18th birthday celebration that turned bloody. For the WHYS and HOWS, you’ll just have to see the film for yourself when it opens on theaters starting October 4.
The film is led by millennial stars Sue Ramirez (Kate), Miles Ocampo (Lara), Michelle Vito (Candice), Jane De Leon Jenny) and Chanel Morales (Shayne).
Regal Films also introduced during the blog media conference yesterday newcomer Paolo Gumabao (Shake Rattle and Roll XV, Haunted Mansion) – he was last seen in a guest appearance for Mulawin Vs Ravena.
THE DEBUTANTES will revolve around Kate (Sue), a friendless and weird-looking student who will try to win the friendships of the campus IT GIRLS Lara (Miles), Jenny (Jane), Candice (Michelle) and Shayne (Chanel). Jane De Leon will play the BIG bully here in the film who admittedly enjoyed her experience in portraying a role that is completely the opposite of who she is in real life.
Sue, Miles, Michelle, Jane and Chanel – now tagged as the “IT Girls” of Regal Entertainment – also shared personal experiences of being bullied in school during the blogcon and advises everyone to just ignore them.
But the film THE DEBUTANTES might tell us a different story. 🙂
YOU’RE ALL INVITED!
