What is it about scandalous affairs and third-party relationships that makes it a hot topic among film-makers and television shows?
Maybe because this has been a reality for many many ages but the discussion of it in public was considered taboo by almost all cultures.
Public recognition of this social issue was only magnified just a couple of decades ago – along with the world-wide recognition (and protection) of Women’s rights and other issues attached to it.
Maybe because this issue explores the weaknesses of humans as a social being in many different levels. Contrary to popular belief the so-called problems of infidelity is not only centered on the fallibilities of men but also of women – relationships by the way, is a two-way street.
In an attempt to explore the many experiences of Filipinos with regards to this issue, GMA Network produces D’ ORIGINALS – an afternoon series that tells about the lives of three women and their better halves who fell into the trap of the “other woman.”
The humor-filled take on this serious subject was orchestrated by premiere indie-turned-mainstream director Adolf Alix, Jr.
About a week ago, I attended the official media launch of the show and was able to meet its formidable casts and here they are:
Jaclyn Jose as Josie Magpayo
The perfect housewife and almost stereotypical. She has two kids with Lando, his equally faithful husband – until?
Kim Domingo as Sofia Godinez
Sexy zumba instructor and wife to Art, a playful talent manager. She’s independent minded, vicious and fierce.
LJ Reyes as Marge Tolentino
The career-driven wife of Caloy who was a former OFW.
Playing the roles of the “Other Women” are Katrina Halili (Yvette Binetez), Meg Imperial (Alice Lucero) and Lovely Abella (Christina Pineda).
The less than perfect husbands will be played by Jestoni Alarcon (Lando Magpayo), Archie Alemania (Art Godinez) and Mark Herras (Carlo Tolentino).
Also joining the series are:
- Mikoy Morales as Tim Magpayo who will play the gay son of Lando and Josie
- Elyson De Dios as Darenn, the secret lover of Tim
- Arny Ross as Precious, Yvette’s bestfriend
- Chlaui Malayao as Macy Magpayo, the youngest child of Lando and Josie
The battle between the Mistresses and D’ ORIGINALS begins April 17 (Monday). Catch it weekday afternoons after Legally Blind and before Wowowin only on GMA.
