I’d like to think that Regal Entertainment’s MANO PO CHINOY is a collateral damage from the recent revamp on the selection guidelines for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)!
The effect of this unexpected event may not be as devastating to the actors compared to the producers but the cast is clearly a bit disappointed with the decision and most specially ENCHONG DEE who has revealed to online media and the press, that he prayed to God for the success of the movie in MMFF and was hoping to get an acting nomination (and an award) for his role as the rebellious son of RICHARD YAP and JEAN GARCIA.
I was able to meet the main cast of MANO PO CHINOY last Tuesday during a special blog conference held at the Valencia Events Place in Quezon City.
Joining Enchong Dee, Richard Yap and Jean Garcia at the conference were Janella Salvador, Marlo Mortel and producers Mother Lily and Roselle Monteverde.
The cast and producers were unanimous in saying that the seventh installment of MANO PO is the best and most authentic compared to the other films in the franchise. Both director Ian Lorenos and the writer of the new MANO PO story are Chinoys. Actors Richard and Enchong are also real Chinoys. And these have contributed to the greater authenticity of the film.
Richard Yap said that some parts of the script were even re-written during the course of the movie’s shooting to make it more realistic and authentic. In a way, Richard and Enchong worked as the writer’s consultants when it comes to Chinoy traditions.
Aside from tackling issues on arranged marriage and Filipino-Chinese union, the movie also shows several family issues that is rooted from neglect. Issues that Richard Yap said is a very real situation in many Chinese-Filipino families especially those whose patriarchs or matriarchs are heavily engaged in businesses.
The movie will also show different Chinese traditions never-before-seen in the other MANO PO installments.
MANO PO CHINOY will be shown in theaters nationwide on December 14, 2016. The Grand Parade and Red Carpet Premiere is scheduled on December 9 (Friday) at SM Megamall starting at 5 in the afternoon.
The movie also stars Jessy Mendiola, Jake Cuenca, Jana Agoncillo and Kean Cipriano.
Here’s a video of Enchong Dee sharing his feelings about the new MANO PO movie:
