Chinatown gets a fiber broadband technology upgrade courtesy of Globe!
Happening right now here at the Lucky Chinatown Mall is the 4th installment of the Globe my Business Day caravan headed by Globe Chief Commercial Officer Albert de Larrazabal who announced the good news of giving the oldest business district in Mega Manila a fiber boost of up to 1Gbps of speed and 100mbps on free public wifi.
In his opening remarks, Larrazabal said that there is truth in saying that the DSL footprint in the Philippines is relatively small compared to the other nations. But that does not mean that Globe is not doing anything about it.
Early this year, Globe made a call for local governments’ support for its initiative to build on its network infrastructure and provide better internet experience for its customers. The City of Manila was the first to respond to the call and the result will be the fiberization of the entire Binondo District to drive business growth not only in the district but the whole of Manila.
This project is expecting completion by the 3rd quarter of this year.
Globe will also roll out small cell technology in various parts of Binondo (and soon in other districts) to expand network coverage and capacity.
The event started with some Chinese business traditions like the dragon and lion dance, and the sounding of the ceremonial gong.
Here’s a video of the dragon and lion dance presentation:
