December 8 is the Feast of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. It is one of the Catholic church’s Holy Day of Obligation and in some parts of the world considered as a public holiday!
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle is scheduled to celebrate a high mass in commemoration of the feast today, 6pm at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Masses will also be held at 7:30 a.m. and at 12:10 p.m.
In Catholic teachings, Mary, the mother of Christ was said to have been conceived in her mother’s womb free from original sin and kept by God an “immaculate.”
The Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is also considered as the titular patroness of the Philippines. There are a lot of parishes, chapels, schools and other structures dedicated or named after the Immaculate Conception. Most notable are the Basilica in Intramuros and the parish of the Immaculate Conception in Malabon.
