GMA Artist Center’s August birthday celebrants Kim Rodriguez, Jeric Gonzales, K-La Rivera and Anikka Camaya visited last Tuesday (August 12) Baranggay Sta. Elena in Marikina to celebrate their birthday and at the same time pay tribute to the brave men and women of the Marikina Emergency Response Team (ERT).
The event was held at the Marikina Public Market Multi-Purpose Hall. A simple ‘salo-salo’ turned into an afternoon of games and laughter as host Tess Bomb together with the birthday celebrants mingled with the volunteers, police officers, baranggay officials and even medical personnel of the Sta. Elena ERT.
It can be remembered that the city of Marikina was one of the areas badly devastated by Typhoon Ondoy, but from that tragedy arose a more vigilant, more organized and more disciplined city. One of the direct result of that incident is the creation of an emergency response unit in each of the city’s baranggay.
Sta. Elena Baranggay Captain Enard Bernardo said that their ERT has around 55 members and volunteers headed by Dr. Michael Dela Paz. The Sta. Elena ERT according to Mr. Bernardo are trained by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) – in fact, the PNRC are scheduled to conduct a refresher training on all their members this coming August 21st.
After the program, the birthday celebrants distributed raingears to all members of the Baranggay Sta. Elena Emergency Response Team as well as giveaways from sponsors Mario D’Boro, BS Mobile, Active White, Nisce, BNY, Unisilver, Monreo Biscuits and Fernando’s Bakeshop.
RainCHECK got a chance to talk to the four Kapuso birthday celebrants during the event:
Kim a resident of nearby San Mateo, Rizal turns 19 today (August 14) and have plans to celebrate the occasion simply with her family in her home town. However, I am not sure if that would be possible, because after their birthday program in Baranggay Sta. Elena, both Jeric Gonzales and her quickly left the venue to attend a scheduled story conference (storycon) at GMA for their new show tentatively titled as ‘Strawberry Lane’ together with fellow tweens Kiko Estrada, Bea Binene, Jhake Vargas and former Sugarpop member Rita De Guzman.
Kim will be paired with Kiko Estrada in the series.
Jeric who also left early turned 22 years old last August 7. Together with the family they went to a hot spring resort in Pansol, Laguna to celebrate his special day. Jeric lives in Calamba.
The young actor is one of the winners of the 2nd season of Protege ‘artista’ search. His last project was PYRA with fellow Protege winner actress Thea Tolentino.
Anikka started her showbiz career after getting the 7th position in the GMA show ‘Anak Ko Yan’ where child actress Jen Jen Chang was declared as the over-all winner. She turned 18 last August 3 and celebrated it with a simple debut party at the Legend Villas in Mandaluyong.
After ‘Anak Ko Yan’ the young actress immediately signed in with the GMA Artist Center and did some workshops before landing a support role in ‘Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw’ together with Kim Rodriguez, Kristoffer Martin, Joyce Ching and Phytos Ramirez. She’s now in the show Nino with Miguel Tanfelix, David Remo, Bianca Umali, Renz Valerio, Julian Trono and many others.
Anikka plans to go into film making someday.
K-La who recently signed in with GMA Artist Center last March is currently on workshop schedules. She celebrated her 23rd birthday yesterday (August 13).
The Fil-Canadian singer was discovered in Willie Revillame’s game show but got nationwide recognition when she joined and won 4th over-all in ABS CBN’s ‘Star Power: Search For The Next Female Pop Superstar’ where Angeline Quinto was declared as champion in 2011.
K-La also released a self-titled album under Star Records in 2012 which contains 5 songs including Love Has Come My Way, Your All I Need, Inseparable, Say That You Love Me and Someone Always Saying Goodbye.
K-La said that the move from ABS CBN to GMA was a career decision and she fully understand that networks sometimes have to prioritize other artists over another. Backed with a new manager, K-la auditioned for GMA and got her first Kapuso exposure in the show Carmela with Marian Rivera and Alden Richards.
Aside from GMA, K-la is currently busy with theater musicals – she has appeared recently in Atlantis Production’s The Adams Family and Carrie. She will also be joining the cast of the 3rd re-run of PETA’s Rak of Aegis in October.
