While the season of lent is a time for fasting and abstinence for many Filipinos, Easter Sunday or the Feast of the Resurrected Christ is the greatest of all the Christian celebrations. It starts with the Easter Vigil on the eve of Black Saturday followed by the traditional ‘Salubong’ on the early morning of Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday will be a festival celebrated all over the Philippines with wonderful church activities and by all families all over the nation with a grand feast of both sights, sounds and of course FOOD.
Speaking of food! There are a lot of restaurants in Mega Manila that offers wonderful Easter lunch, merienda or dinner packages. But there is one new restaurant in town that I would like to recommend to all who want an awesome feast of wonderfully prepared delicious dishes that will surely satisfy your Easter cravings.
PEPPERMILL RESTAURANT AND MIXOLOGY BAR
The thing is, the owner and the head chef of this restaurant is not really a chef! He is a Filipino who studied Marketing and Management in the US with a knack for great tasting food and a cooking skill that is really chef-worthy. His name is Chef Vince Rodriguez.
I went to the Peppermill Restaurant and Mixology Bar one afternoon a week before the Holy Week with a couple of blogger friends to check out what they have to offer. I didn’t know Peppermill and Chef Vince before that day and the dishes that he painstakingly prepared for us that afternoon introduced me to one of the best kitchen talent that I’ve come to know since I started reviewing food and restaurants.
Chef Vince co-owns and manages the restaurants, Torch, Krave and Red Garlic before finally deciding to create Peppermill Resturant and Mixology Bar, his very first solo restaurant located at Place One Building along Katipunan Avenue, near other famous restos like Katips and Banapple.
For starters, Chef Vince treated us to some of the restaurant’s finest mocktails. We tasted four of their most awesome blends – Virgin Lychee Mojito, Pandan De Rosa, Peaches and Cream, and Passion Fruit Iced Tea.
Impressively, Chef Vince who doesn’t have any formal culinary studies prior to venturing into the restaurant business is the one who creates all the wonderful dishes in his restaurants. His love for great tasting food and his many gastronomic adventures were his primary motivation for becoming the great non-chef, CHEF that he is today.
His cooking journey started when he was asked by TV host and personality Kris Aquino to prepare the dishes for her son Baby James’ Christening (Binyag) seven years ago. When Kris says that your dishes are splendid – chef or no chef – the world will know that you cook well.

Chef Vince loves spicy food and his most favourite dishes come from the Cajun regions of Louisiana, New Orleans and also spice-rich Mexico.

Probably the best part of our food-tasting experience at Peppermill Restaurant and Mixology Bar are Chef Vince’s courteous and friendly staff. It’s like a restaurant built for families, a home outside your homes – they have everything for everyone at Peppermill.
What’s next for Peppermill? Chef Vince said that he plans to create a second branch if everything goes well with the first one. He also said that he has a standing offer from SM to put up a branch at SM Aura or in any available SM mall he chooses, however, he prefers to test the outside market first before venturing inside the mall environment.
