I can honestly say that I was more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan but that won’t matter since all you need to know is that I am full-pledged geek.
I grew up with comic books.
Back in high school, while my friends play basketball and join parties during the weekends – I buy, collect and read DC comic book titles and play Magic The Gathering with fellow geeks. I have bought the complete set of Crisis on Infinite Earths, majority of the collectible issues of JLA, JLE, Legion of Superheroes, Superman and many other smaller titles like The Outsiders, Teen Titans, etc.
Now imagine my excitement when SM Store and Pacific Licensing Studios (PLS) announced the launching of their Justice League: Heroes United at SM year-long merchandising campaign featuring more than 80 key products with designs based on the DC Comics’ NEW 52 series – a first in the whole of Asia!
I attended the formal launch last Sunday at the SM Megatrade Hall conference area and got a glimpse of some the products that are already out in the market from apparel, accessories, footwear, bags, gifts & novelties, houseware, bedding and personal care items. Heck, they are even planning to come out with under garments! Geek-Alert!
Sadly, I haven’t seen any of the New 52 designs yet since according to PLS and SM, products will be launched in three waves that started last mid-February, and will be refreshed in May and July this year.
Justice League: Heroes United at SM also features new store fixtures and product packaging. The campaign is led by the Honey Barn Corporation, who is Warner Bros. Consumer Products key product licensee for DC Comics here in the Philippines.

The campaign as well as the merchandise were launched in 48 SM malls nationwide. Starting May 1 through June 30th, consumers and fans alike will be able to participate in a raffle draw with every purchase of P500 worth of Justice League: Heroes United at SM merchandise at The SM Store. The winners will win a trip to Singapore and experience the first ever DC Super Heroes Cable Car ride with Augmented Reality (AR) technology! Plus a chance to win a Sony PS4 Game Console with free Injustice Gods Among Us game.
PLS and SM also announced other campaign marketing programs like CosPlay events, celebrity engagements and more contests that will take place in June 2014. They also showed us a glimpse of what they have in store for the 75th year anniversary of the ‘cape crusader’ – yes, the batman is already 75 years old and also announced their participation in this year’s Toy Convention where ‘the batman’ will once again play a crucial role in the exhibit.
