Kapuso actress KIM RODRIGUEZ is finally stepping out of her comfort zones and accepting more daring roles starting with GMA Network’s newest afternoon drama series PARAISO KO’Y IKAW.
Had a chance to talk to Kim last Saturday at Pipino Vegetarian Restaurant in Quezon City. The 19 year-old lead star of last year’s hit afternoon series Kakambal Ni Eliana was with fellow PARAISO KO’Y IKAW stars KRISTOFFER MARTIN, JOYCE CHING and PHYTOS RAMIREZ.
I first met Kim in 2012 during her birthday celebration at the Manila Boys Town Complex with fellow birthday celebrants Barbie Forteza and Derrick Monasterio. She was still wearing the stage name KIM KOMATSU that time. That was her first public appearance after two months without a project. A couple of weeks after that she landed on a role with Coffee Prince (Aljur and Kris) and then her first lead role in Kakambal Ni Eliana (with Kristoffer Martin) and now another lead role in PARAISO KO’Y IKAW. Things are getting better and better for this young and talented actress.
PARAISO KO’Y IKAW is directed by Bb Joyce Bernal (10,000 hours). This is the first time that Kim will be working with Bb Joyce.
“Si Bb Joyce ay isa sa pinaka-magaling na director. Sobrang thankful talaga ako for this project at sobrang pressure din. Pero good pressure naman kasi that will drive me to do better and push myself to the limits. Talagang mas gagalingan ko pa.”
I asked Kim about her role here in the PARAISO KO’Y IKAW and she said,
“Ibang Kim ang makikita nila. Kung dati medyo kikay at pa-sweet ngayon medyo daring at mature na ako dito. Ako si Josephine dito, lalaki ako sa isang Isla kasama si Tope (Kristoffer Martin), magkakahulugan kami ng loob pero magkakahiwalay.”
A sexier Kim is really worth watching for. Kim already has one of the prettiest face in showbiz and now that she’s taking chances on more mature roles, heads will definitely be turning. How did she prepare for this?
“I am doing a lot of physical training to keep my body fit and beach-worthy because we have a lot of Island scenes here. I do jogging, swimming and go to the gym as often as I can.”
Kim also said that to prepare herself for the new series, she watched the Brooke Shields movie ‘Blue Lagoon.’ The story is different but it does have some similarities especially with the environment and at some point with the characters as well.
Aside from being the main setting of the story, what does ‘Paraiso’ mean in the TV series?
“Ang tinutukoy na paraiso sa kwento ay yung mga mahal ko sa buhay. Yung mga taong minamahal ko, nagmamahal sa akin at kasama ko sa pag-abot sa mga pangarap ko.”
Kim also said that she knows that when she entered showbiz that time will come when she will be asked to take on more mature roles.
“Napaghandaan ko na to and now that I am already 19, I think I am now ready to take on more mature roles.”
Aside from PARAISO KO’Y IKAW, Kim Rodriguez is also part of the Indie film CHASING BOULEVARDS with Kiko Estrada and TeeJay Marquez. A coming of age film written and directed by Allesadra Dalmas.
Catch the new and sexier Kim Rodriguez in PARAISO KO’Y IKAW Mondays to Fridays before 24 Oras beginning January 27 on GMA.
