To a hard-core Pinoy hoops fan, life is not complete without ever watching a GINEBRA game live!  And even more fulfilling, if you’ve watched them in action during a Finals game.

Last Sunday (November 17), the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) opened the 2014 PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup simultaneously over at the Araneta Center (Metro Manila), New Cebu City Coliseum (Cebu) and the University of Southeastern Philippines Gym (Davao).

The grand opening was broadcasted live via TV5, the official home network of the PBA and hosted by AARON ATAYDE and the very sexy ABBY POBLADOR together with fellow hall-of-famers RONNIE MAGSANOC and BENJIE PARAS.

Also inducted to the PBA Hall of Fame league pioneer LIM EM BENG and the late COACH ED OCAMPO.

I have watched several PBA games live before but last Sunday was a different ball game!  It was the 39th Season opening of the Philippine Cup and it was all happening simultaneously in three parts of the country.

Here are the highlights of the opening:

The six teams in metro manila, paraded their banners together with muses Marian Rivera, Isabel Oli, Maxene Magalona, Lauren Young, Gretchen Hoa and Ms. Earth 2012 Teresa Fajksova (photos courtesy of InterAKTV/Justin Gener):

The icing on that cake was that awesome game between BARANGAY GINEBRA  and SAN MIG COFFEE MIXERS!

Just to give you a summary of what took place, the MIXERS was playing a really excellent game for the first half.  They have maintained their lead over GINEBRA who seems to be playing a little off that afternoon.  Powering the MIXERS was the excellent ball handling of Justin Melton and power plays of Val Acuna, Alex Mallari and Mark Barroca.

Nearing the end of the 3rd Quarter everything went to GINEBRA’s favor as LA Tenorio, Dylan Ababou and Jay R Reyes leads the GINS to its first victory with 86 – 69.  The GINEBRA magic worked once again!

During the first few minutes of the grand GINEBRA take-over San Mig Mixers’ Rafi Reavis almost had a brawl with the GINS’ Jay R Reyes – which earned both of them a technical.

Here’s the whole action in pictures:

And that’s what makes basketball and the PBA the ‘Pambansang laro ng mga Pinoy’ (the national game of the Filipinos).

In Cebu, Talk N’ Text wins against Meralco while Rain or Shine Triumphs over Alaska.

The PBA Philippine Cup opening also set an unprecedented record of over 30,000 live audiences with 20,298 inside the Araneta Coliseum, around 3,000 in Metro Cebu and 7,000 in Metro Davao.

Aside from TV5, the PBA games will also have a simulcast on AksyonTV live every Wednesday and Friday, starting at 5:30pm; Saturday games airs at 3:30pm and on Sundays starting at 3:00pm.  Catch the PBA games also on the radio at DZSR Sports Radio 918AM.
