EARTH HOUR is a WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) initiative that aims to spread awareness about the earth’s climate change situation by encouraging institutions and households to turn-off the lights and other unnecessary electric appliances for one hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. The program started in 2007 and has been an annual event ever since.
SM City Sta. Mesa officials together with Quezon City government representatives led the countdown to 8:30pm last March 23 (Saturday) as they symbolically pushed down a huge light switch as the primary lights of the mall went down.
Outside the mall, fire dancers entertained mall goers and passersby.
Also located in the activity area is a huge I WILL IF YOU WILL commitment board where mall goers can publicly pledge their commitment to help Mother Earth.
It is so nice to see how EARTH HOUR has transformed a lot of individuals and even big businesses on how they do things. Plans are made with due respect to the environment and priorities includes taking care of the earth.
Kudos to SM City Sta. Mesa as well as other business establishments and homes who participated in last Saturday’s EARTH HOUR event.
