Caritas Manila, the lead Catholic agency for social services and development of the Archdiocese of Manila celebrated its 59th Anniversary last Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City.
Since its founding on 1953, it directly serves the 13 vicariates of the Archdiocese and provides technical assistance to parish social services and development ministries, and acts as catalyst for capacity-building and networking for five other Metro Manila dioceses.
Mrs. Rosario R. Villar, Treasurer, Board of Trustees and the oldest volunteer of Caritas Manila opened the program by delivering her remarks. Special guests Jaime Rivera, inspirational diva and Jason Ariel, child-star of the film Merry Christmas Nay rendered songs for the attendees.
Around three thousand Social Services and Development Ministry (SSDM) workers and volunteers attended the Grand Commissioning. They were re-commissioned during the Eucharistic celebration led by His Excellency Luis Antonio G. Tagle,D.D., Archbishop of Manila con-celebrated by fifteen priests from Archdiocese of Manila and suffragan dioceses.
In his homily, Archibishop Tagle described Caritas Manila’s workers and volunteers as angels here on earth that proclaims God’s power, strength and healing.
“Bawat isang Kristiyano ay tinatawag at sinusugo upang maging anghel.Sa ayaw at sa gusto ninyo, bawat isa na nandito, anghel ka.”said Archbishop Tagle.
He also reiterated the role of Caritas Manila as the Church of the poor by proclaiming God’s love through its various programs and projects in the community.
“Kung ano ang puno, siya rin ang bunga. Ang puno natin ay pag-ibig,ang Diyos.At walang dapat maging ibang bunga kundi pag-ibig”.
Model Entrepreneurs, Youth Servant Leaders, Green Stewards and various program benefactors were also recognized. Parish workers and volunteers were divided into three teams to showcase their respective presentations.
[email protected], the documentary-drama show of Caritas Manila in partnership with TV Maria was launched during the celebration. The show will feature different topics on what the Church is doing to help the urban poor communities
Aside from the raffle and donor prizes, a segment of the program was allotted to its Social Marketing team to campaign and rally support for Caritas Manila’s fund-raising programs and activities such as Segunda Mana, Can of Charity and the film Merry Christmas Nay.
