KEANE achieved mainstream success with the release of the hit single Somewhere Only we Know. It is the carrier of their debut album, Hopes and Fears. It became an instant success after hitting the airwaves in 2004 and Pinoys worldwide have took notice of this four-man alternative British pop rock band.
Hopes and Fears sold more than nine million copies worldwide, and won a Brit Award for Best Album in 2005. In addition, the band also won the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act, voted by listeners of BBC Radio 1.
Success continued with their second studio album, Under the Iron Sea, which topped the album charts in the UK and debuted at an impressive No.4 on the US Billboard 200 chart. This album marked the transition from piano-driven songs in their first album to more progressive, sophisticated music, again without using guitars.
Their third album, Perfect Symmetry, explored and moved from their established piano-pop sound to the use of guitars for the first time.
KEANE is composed of Tom Chaplin on lead vocals / acoustic guitar, Tim Rice-Oxley on piano / keyboards / synthesizers, Richard Hughes on drums / percussions and Jesse Quin on bass guitar. Their music can be described as similar to the likes of Dashboard Confessionals and Secondhand Serenade which Pinoys have grown to love.
KEANE’s latest album Strangeland, released in May 2012 under MCA Music (Universal Music Philippines) debuted at No.1 on the UK Albums chart. This feat made them one of three bands in UK pop history to have five consecutive Number 1 albums. This album and also their other previous albums are all out now in CDs exclusively under MCA Music available at Astroplus and Odyssey Music and Video or online via iTunes and www.MyMusicStore.com.ph
Last October 2, I got a ticket courtesy of Ferds Bondoy of Tatak Digitista for KEANE’S Strangeland Tour Concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. My first time to see KEANE Live in Concert and first time inside the Mall of Asia Arena. I was seated at the Lower Box section.
The best seats would be the VIP section which is the first 10 rows of the arena but the tickets are 6,340 pesos a piece for this concert. The Lower Box ticket that I got is already 3,170 Pesos. Anyway, I would just like to share this one video where they performed “Somewhere Only We Know” during the encore.
So glad that I was able to see KEANE Live in Concert! Thanks again Ferds for the ticket. 🙂
