If you love those songs then you’re in for a big treat because the singer and writer of those songs is going to Manila this year. Philippines, get ready for another British invasion because SIR ELTON JOHN is coming to the BIG DOME this coming December 8.
Sir Elton John has been in the music industry for more than 50 years already and has remained to be one of the most sought after and top-selling solo artists of all time. The Rocket Man as he is known all over have made quite an impressive music career selling more than 250 million records with 35 gold and 25 platinum albums. The British Singer-Songwriter also played in over 3,000 concerts worldwide since he started in 1969.
Elton John also holds the record for biggest selling single of all time, a title he’s kept since 1997 with the song Candle in the Wind 1997. This is Elton and Bernie’s heartbreaking tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and has sold over 37,000,000 copies, and raised millions for the princess’s charities. In 1998 Elton received a knighthood from HM Queen Elizabeth II for “services to music and charitable services” and became Sir Elton Hercules John, CBE.
ELTON JOHN THROUGH THE YEARS
Sir Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947 and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. He formed his first band, Bluesology, in 1961. Elton John was introduced to Bernie Taupin in 1967 by Ray Williams at Liberty Records and in 1968 they became staff songwriters for Dick James’ DJM label. He later released his first album, Empty Sky in 1969.
In 1970 Elton’s self-titled album spawned the evergreen hit Your Song which introduced him to the world. And in the span of 1970-79, he has released an astonishing 12 albums and an additional of two Live albums, 17-11-70 (1971) and Here and There (1976):

In 1992 in the USA, and in 1993 in the UK, Elton established the Elton John AIDS Foundation. During the 1990′s he also collaborated with Tim Rice on music for Disney’s The Lion King, winning a Best male pop Grammy and also his first Academy Award. Elton later worked with Tim Rice on the Broadway smash Aida.
Elton John also wrote the music for Billy Elliot The Musical with Lee Hall. It was launched on the London stage in 2005 which won multiple awards including 10 Tonys.
Five decades since the release of his first album, Elton John is still making wonderful music. The mark of a true musical icon. In 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Royal Academy of Music. Other landmark awards includes:

- He was inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1994
- He received five Grammy Awards 1986-2000 and a Grammy Legend Award in 2001
- Kennedy Center Honor in 2004
- 11 Ivor Novello Awards between 1973 and 2000.
He has made a number of Sountrack Albums which includes my favorites – The Lion King, The Road to El Dorado and his latest for the animation Gnomeo & Juliet.
In 2007, Elton John released Rocket Man – The Definitive Hits, a single CD album which features eighteen classic hit songs. The release of Rocket Man marked a huge anniversary for Elton – on March 25th, 2007, he celebrated his 60th birthday while breaking his own record with an unmatched 60th concert at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York. No other entertainer has come close to matching this record.
Also in 2007, for the first time ever, Elton’s entire back catalogue of nearly 500 tracks (90 singles and 32 albums) became available to download legally.
