It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.. — (C) Warner Bros.
RainCHECKS “The Dark Knight Rises”
A storm has come. I believe the ‘so called’ final episode of Christopher Nolan’s version of the cape crusader lived up to the expectations of every ‘batman’ .. nope ‘dark knight’ fans rather. I am stressing that point because the two are of different nature. The Batman otherwise known as Gotham’s greatest detective and the more subdued, darker and more human side of the masked vigilante – a dark knight.
There was no sign of the ‘detective’ on Nolan’s version of The Batman but it was a character that most of us can very much relate to. He was every bit a man with all the fallibility and not just some superhero with a cape and a mask.
The story picks up from where the Joker (Heath Ledger) left Gotham and the broken down Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) mourning the loss of her closest friend Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes) and hiding from the authorities. It starts with the introduction to a new villain called Bane (Tom Hardy), an excommunicated member of the League of Shadows. He’s faster, stronger and more agile than Bruce, and this was very evident in the movie when Bane beat up the batman to the pulp, breaking almost every bone in his body as well as his spirit. The film also introduces the character of the beautiful Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard) who happens to be the psychotic daughter of Raj Al Ghul, Talia and the mastermind of the destruction of Gotham.
The dark knight rises exposes the weaknesses of men when introduced to chaos. However, it also demonstrated the triumph of the human spirit against tyranny and injustice. The element of hope and transformation was embodied by additional casts Selina Kyle aka Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), Commisioner James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and John Blake (Joseph Gordon Levitt).
Michael Kane (Alfred) and Morgan Freeman (Lucius) was exceptional as always. I commend Michael Kane in this movie, he is truly one of the best dramatic actor in the industry.
I like the new batman, the same with the new Spider Man and James Bond. I just hope Nolan’s Man of Steel is up on that same alley as well.
