Most Rev. Luis Antonio G. Tagle, D.D., will be installed the 32nd Metropolitan Archbishop of Manila on Dec. 12, 2011 at 9 a.m. at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Manila Cathedral). Archbishop Tagle, 54, succeeds Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, 79, whose resignation was accepted by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on October 13, 2011. Archbishop Tagle was Bishop of Imus for 10 years. Archbishop Tagle was also ordained bishop on the same date ten years ago.
Archbishop Tagle will be accorded a Civic reception by the Mayors of the five cities under its ecclesiastical jurisdiction: Manila, Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong and San Juan. Each mayor will hand over to the new Archbishop the symbolic key of their city.
The ceremony will be graced by the country’s three Cardinals—Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Jose Cardinal Sanchez, and Cardinal Rosales—the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto; the president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, 75 Archbishops and Bishops of the Philippines, three foreign bishops, the clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila and its suffragans, the clergy of Imus and other guest priests.
