Last August 29, a youth rally was held at the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) in support of nine young lawmakers in their commitment to forward the “betterment of our nation” through education, health care and livelihood.

In a statement, Rep. Gabriel Quisumbing (Cebu City, 6th District) said that their agenda is not solely about the P3-billion proposed budget for the RH Bill, as stated in a signed manifesto the group called “9YL”

“When we visit our constituents, what they ask for is medicine, they ask for education, they ask for jobs, they ask for peace…that we feel that the money to be appropriated for this [RH] bill can be better spent on,” Quisumbing added.

Rep. Fatima Aliah Dimaporo (Lanao Del Norte, 2nd District) said:

“More immediate needs in health care, that government budget should go to the top causes of death, which are heart and lung diseases.. will the (RH bill) immediately improve the health of mothers and other Filipinos?”

MY TWO CENTS about this issue?

Finally, lawmakers are getting their priorities straight and started thinking about the country first before anything else!

I am not totally against the RH Bill, and I think that it’s an important bill to consider in the future, however, our nation has a lot of bigger challenges right now that should be prioritized specially when it comes to funding (and as the report says it’s a P3 Billion Funding).  RH bill will require funding if passed and it is my personal opinion that funding it would be a lesser priority compared to other matters in the Philippines that needs some long-term solutions such as, solving our flooding problem, improving our agricultural production and farm to market roads, job and food security, education, improving provincial health facilities and many other top priority projects.

Like I always say.. RH Bill will not put food on the tables of the majority of Filipinos.  Condoms although flavored, are not edible.
