The story of Captain America has a very interesting plot: A weak soldier becomes a hero by volunteering himself to serve his country as a guinea pig for the super soldier experiment but ended up instead as a ‘mascot’ for the US army. Then at the right moment, when his country needed him the most, people finally realized what he really was, even before the super soldier experiment – a brave soldier and a hero of the country. A hero who inspired a whole nation.
Of course, as the name implies, Captain America is a symbol of American patriotism in honor of its soldiers. But, more than that, this comic book character from Marvel has become a general figure for bravery and love for country. Which makes him the most likely candidate to lead the other Avengers like Asgardian Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, and the other super powered beings being assembled by Nick Fury.
I was really more of a DC comic book fan than marvel, but if there’s one character in the whole Marvel universe that have made a mark in my young mind – it was Captain America. I have read the comic book, watched the TV series (both cartoons and the real live actors). It was the shield that actually caught my fancy. It was every kid’s dream at that time, to have Captain America’s shield and to be able to throw it like he did.
After the super soldier experiment, I think a lot of us would call him as a Super Hero type. But to me, the real Captain America is not the agile and strong mutated soldier but the weak Steve Rogers who gave his life for the sake of his country. And that to me is the mark of a true Hero. A hero that anyone of us can become if we have the heart of a Steve Rogers inside.
I am really excited to see this new Captain America film, as deeply excited as seeing the up coming Avengers movie. But before that, here are some Captain America trivia to guide you through the movie:
- Captain America first appeared in the 1940′s
- Captain America’s shield is made from the fictional element Vabranium
- Captain America has a side kick named James “Bucky” Barnes
